VietNamNet Bridge – The internationally renowned French university Ecole Normale Supérieure de Cachan (ENS Cachan) presented Professor Nguyen Van Hieu with an honourable doctorate degree in a ceremony on October 18.
The ceremony was attended by professors and academics including Overseas Vietnamese Professor Jean Tran Thanh Van and ENS Cachan Director Professor Pierre-Paul Zalio.
The decision to award Nguyen Van Hieu an honourable doctorate was made two years ago.
Professor Zalio said the degree is an official recognition of Hieu’s influential physics research and his contributions to the cooperative ties between Vietnam and France and the ENS Cachan.
Former ENS Cachan Faculty Head Professor Mireille Tadjeddine, reviewing Hieu’s career, described him as one of Vietnam’s leading scientists, actively promoting the development of science and technology and cultivating Vietnam’s reputation in the French scientific and educational communities.
Professor Hieu has published as many as 130 physics research papers. From 1996 to 1999, he was a member of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) Committee.
ENS Cachan was founded in 1891, offering classes in 17 faculties. Since 1990, it has facilitated many cooperative research projects with Vietnam.
