The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and the United Nations
Children’s Fund (UNICEF) will provide 500,000 USD for central Da Nang
city to bring information technology (IT) to its rural areas in 2013.

The city’s Department of Information and
Communications is coordinating with relevant agencies to promptly
complete related procedures to receive the money and implement the
project.

Director of the Department Pham Kim Son
said that the project will focus on Hoa Vang district and combine with
other IT programmes which involve the building of new rural areas.

Earlier, the foundation financed a pilot project to improve computer
use skills and Internet access in Vietnam with a total sum of 50.6
million USD.

BMGF is the largest transparently
operated private foundation in the world, founded by Bill and Melinda
Gates. The primary aims of the foundation are to enhance healthcare and
reduce extreme poverty globally.-VNA
