The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra performing in last year’s Toyota concert tour of Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia
The Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra has been sponsored by Toyota for a seven-city tour of Japan from September 21 to October 10, Tuoi Tre newspaper reported Thursday.
Co-organized by the Toyota Vietnam Foundation and the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, the “Toyota Concert 2013” commemorates the 40th anniversary of ties between ASEAN and Japan, as well as Japan – Vietnam Friendship Year 2013.
Now in its 16th year, the event will see performances of the works of renowned Russian composer Tchaikovsky and Japanese composer Yasushi Akutagawa.
It will also feature the performance of the Vietnamese folk song “Se chi luon kim” (Bac Ninh’s love duets), an orchestral arrangement of which was completed by Vietnamese composer Tran Manh Hung, to be conducted by Honna Tetsuji.
Before touring Japan, the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra will give three performances in Vietnam.
The first show will take place at 8 p.m. on July 30 at the Ho Chi Minh City Opera House.
The symphony will play at the Hanoi Opera House at the same time on August 2 and 3.
Tickets for the shows are available at the box offices of the two opera houses, or may be booked online at www.vnso.org.vn.
Ticket prices range from VND200,000-500,000 and are VND100,000 for students.
First held in 1998, the annual “Toyota Concert Tour” is financed by the car maker’s foundation in Vietnam to support young classical music talents in the country. All profits from ticket sales will be added to the Toyota scholarship fund reserved for young Vietnamese musicians.
