VietNamNet Bridge – Large enterprises have been encouraged to increase their cooperation with education institutions to increase the expertise of the Vietnamese workforce.

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) has drafted a plan for the period between 2013 and 2015 that would direct education institutions to make themselves more in fulfilling actual societal demand, focusing on training contracts between private enterprises and schools. They yet to make clear the procedures by which this will be achieved.

The ministry especially encouraged enterprises to open their own education centres, so that they can train employees according to their own human resource needs.

Education facilities in disadvantaged areas, certain selected universities and research centres will be given priority access to ODA sources and state funds for overseas study.

MoET said that they also plan to expand affiliate programmes with foreign countries while grooming a capable domestic teaching staff for training in key fields, such as science, research and policy-making. The plan also includes sending people abroad who would then be capable of training domestically.

Meanwhile, Vietnam lacks policies to make the country an attractive option for qualified foreign experts.

MoET is now in the process of completing a ranking system for in-country education institutions so as to enhance the capabilities of domestic educational facilities to turn out a workforce qualified in the needed sectors.
