The Thai Ministry of Tourism and Sports said that over 4 million foreign
travellers visited Thailand during the first two months of this year,
most of them from China.
According to the ministry,
Thailand has become a favourable destination following a series of
tourism campaigns and sport events. More than 2.2 million travellers
from overseas entered Thailand in January and the number increased
to 2.3 million the following month.
Those numbers
represented increases of 12.5 percent and 25.6 percent respectively
compared to foreign arrivals in January and February 2012. The majority
of visitors were from China, followed by Malaysia and Russia.
Travellers from East Asia formed the largest chunk of increase with
additional 725,795 Chinese visiting the country during the period,
representing a 90.2 percent year-on-year increase.
The
ministry further revealed that Thailand earned as much as 210
billion THB during Jan-Feb, a rise of almost 18 percent from last year.-VNA
