The board of the International Association of Francophone Mayors (AIMF)
will seek for a partnership between ASEAN and French-speaking cities at
its ongoing 75th meeting in Vientiane, Laos .
The board
meeting would discuss future plans to boost cooperation between
French-speaking countries after reviewing recent activities.
Opening
the event on April 1, Mayor of the host city Soukanh Mahalath highly
valued AIMF’s role in increasing the sharing of lessons regarding urban
development among cities in the developed and developing countries.
For his part, AIMF President Bertrand Delanoe, who is the Mayor of
Paris, said he expects experience pertaining to urban development in
association with sustainable cultural heritage preservation would be
exchanged at the event.
Participants are due to attend a
conference under the theme “Heritage town, tourism and development” and
adopt a 1 million Euros aid package for Asian and African urban
projects.
They will also hold a discussion on bettering the
global strategies of bolstering cooperation between francophone
communities across the world.
The AIMF was set up in 1979 under the aegis of the then Mayors of Paris, Jacques Chirac, and Quebec , Jean Pelletier.
Vientiane joined the AIMF in 1992.-VNA
