Chinese President Xi Jinping began his Malaysian visit on October 3,
aiming to raise the two countries’ ties to a new height.
He will hold talks with Prime Miniser Najib Tun Razak on October 4 to
discuss bilateral, regional and international issues of mutual concern.
Both will attend the Malaysia-China Economic
Cooperation Summit. A number of agreements and memoranda of
understanding on cooperation are expected to be inked during President
Xi’s three-day visit.
China is Malaysia’s
largest trade partner in four consecutive years while Malaysia is
China’s largest trade partner in the past five years.
The two’s two-way trade turnover hit 94.8 billion USD in 2012 and
reached 59.72 billion USD in the first seven months of 2013.
The Foreign Ministry of Malaysia hailed President Xi’s visit as
demonstrating the Chinese new leaders’ commitments to maintain long-term
relationship with Malaysia since the two countries set up
diplomatic ties in 1974.
The visit is hoped to outline future orientations for Malaysia-China relations.-VNA
