Thailand and Malaysia have agreed to cooperate in developing their rubber sectors.
According to The Nation, the agreement was reached at recent talks
between Minister of Trade Niwatthumrong Boonsongpaisan and Malaysian
Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade Mustapa Mohamed.
Malaysia has encouraged Thailand to establish a “rubber city” in the
border area shared by Dan Prakob, Na Thawee district of Thailand’s
Songkhla province and Kota Putra in Malaysia’s Kedah state to
promote rubber plantation and ensure stable price for growers’ products.
Minister Niwatthumrong, who also works as Deputy Prime
Minister, said the project will benefit both countries when Thailand’s
rubber supply is on the rise while Malaysia owns several industries
involving rubber products.
Also at the talks, the two sides
agreed to build a bridge linking Thailand’s Sungai Kolok to Malaysia’s
Rantau Panjang to facilitate their trade and tourism.-VNA
