VietNamNet Bridge – “Fast and Furious 6”, “The Hangover 3”, “Star
Trek Into Darkness” and “Epic” are the most wanted movies by Vietnamese
audience in May.
1. Trance
Release date: 3/5
This
is the latest work of renowned British director, Danny Boyle, after
“127 Hours” since 2010. The film tells the story of Simon, an employee
at an auction center, who planed to steal a precious painting with the
cooperation of a gang specializing in stealing paintings. However, after
being hit in the head, Simon lost memory while only he knew where the
picture was hidden.
Simon’s unsuccessful attempt to recall made
the gang doubt of his honesty. They decided to hire a female hypnotist
to penetrate into the brain of Simon. The horrific mystery began to be
revealed… The movie has the participation of James McAvoy, Rosario
Dawson and French actor Vincent Cassel.
2. The Big Wedding
Release date: 3/5
Veteran
actors like Robert De Niro, Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon and beautiful
actresses Amanda Seyfried and Katherine Heigl welcome summer with the
family comedy “The Big Wedding”. The film is the story of Don and Ellie
Griffin, a divorced couple who had to once again be hand in hand in the
wedding of his adopted son.
But the two soon realized that
pretend to be a happy pair is not easy and it is very embarrassing,
especially with Don’s girlfriend Bebe. In the midst of chaos, the
Griffin children also faced many problems of their own.
3. The Call

The
horror movie with the participation of Halle Berry is inspired by the
silent victories of the staff of emergency switchboards. In the movie,
Jordan, the female operator once received a call from a young girl who
said that there is an intruder in her home. During the call, the
operator hears screams and the call ended by the cold words of the
murderer: “It is done”. Shortly after, the police found the body of the
victim.
Receiving other calls, Jordan knew that she is dealing
with a serial killer who is extremely dangerous and always leaves a
brief message “it is done” after each murder, with the victims being
mainly girls. Once, Jordan received a call from a girl who was kidnapped
and locked in the car chassis. Jordan had to compromise and quickly
implement a plan to arrest the killer. But things did not happen as she
expected when the killer had a new psychological game.
4. Welcome to the Punch

After
“Trance”, actor James McAvoy continues to see the Vietnamese audience
again this month with an action – adventure movie “Welcome to the
Punch”.
In this film, the British actor plays Max Lewinsky, a
detective in London (England) who tried to eliminate the notorious
criminal Sternwood Jacob (Mark Strong). When they faced each other, they
realized a deeper conspiracy of mysterious people who were behind this
pursuit.

“Welcome to the Punch” is directed by
British director Eran Creevy. In this movie, the audience will also see
actress Andrea Riseborough – who plays Vika in the blockbuster
“Oblivion” of Tom Cruise which was released in mid-April.
5. Star Trek into Darkness 3D
Release date: 17/5
With
the funding of up to $185 million, “Star Trek Into Darkness” is one of
the biggest blockbusters of the year. This is the sequel to “Star Trek”
from 2009. The spectators will be returned to the Enterprise spaceship
of the Kirk and his crew with the warriors as Nyota Uhura (Zoe Saldana),
Bones (Karl Urban), Spock (Zachary Quinto) … and a new negative
character by Benedict Cumberbatch.
The story of the film
continues after the Enterprise crew is summoned back. Suddenly, they
discoverd a terrible power within their organization, which has
destroyed all what people always try to protect. Captain Kirk decided to
lead the whole crew to chase the terrorist who carry weapons of mass
destruction in the war-zone.
6. Beasts of the Southern Wild
Release date: 24/5
The
audience will enjoy another movie from the nine films shortlisted for
the “Best Picture” of the 2013 Oscar Awards – Beasts of the Southern
Wild.
The movie is about a little girl named Hushpuppy who lives
with her ailing and hot-tempered father in a flood-striken area in the
state of Louisiana. “Beasts of the Southern Wild” is the psychological,
fantasy movie with funding of a mere $1.8 million.
This film won
an important award at the last year’s Sundance Independent Film Festival
and impressed the audience of the Cannes Film Featival. In the 85th
Oscar Awards, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” was nominated for four
important awards: “Best Film”, “Best Actress”, “Best Actor” and “Best
Adapted Screenplay.” Nine-year-old actress Quvenzhane Wallis also
enrolls in history as the youngest person to be nominated for the “Best
Actress”.
7. Fast and Furious 6
Release date: 24/5
With
the success from the last five episodes, “Fast and Furious 6” is
expected to be the focus of this month. From the Fast Five two years
ago, millions of fans of the series have been waiting for the 6th
episode because the Fast Five “revealed” the return of Michelle
Rodriguez (as Letty – Dominic Toretto’s girlfriend whodied in part 4).
The last words by Eva Mendez: “Do you believe in ghost?” was enough to
attract the audience to the sixth episode even when there was no
specific script.
After the great mission in Rio (Brazil), Dominic
Toretto’s team became rich with multi-million dollars. However,
criminal records prevented them from returning to their homeland and
they had to find a new life elsewhere outside the United States.
Federal
agent Luke Hobbs (The Rock) kept tracking of Toretto’s team. But this
time, a dangerous gang appeared, led by Letty Ortiz, Toretto’s
girlfriend who was thought to die along time ago. Hobbs and Toretto
teamed up to catch this mysterious gang and find out the cause of the
return of Letty.
8. Talaash: Hunt for the truth
Release date: 31/5
The
Vietnamese audience will enjoy a Bollywood film titled “Talaash: The
Answer Lies Within”. With only $7.4 million budget, this movie grossed
$32 million globally.
The film is about a police officer – Surjan
Singh Shekhawat – who investigated the mysterious death of a movie
star. The vital clues of the case came from a high-end call girl in the
city. At the same time, Shekhawat suffered from chronic insomnia since
he was obsessed with his son’s death. Personal tragedy and the
mysterious case going into “dead-end” made Shekhawat gradually lose his
self-control.
9. The Hangover 3
Release date: 31/5
Besides
“Fast and the Furious 6”, “The Hangover 3” is also an awaited film this
month. This is the last episode of the popular comedy trio directed by
Todd Phillips. The three main actors in the part three are still Bradley
Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms. The third episode will focus on
Alan and the scene of the funeral of Alan’s father.
Six months
later, Alan is abnormal psychology and his friends had to take him to a
place called New Horizons. Along the way, they met up with Chow – the
Asian character who appeared in the two previous episodes. “The Hangover
3” will have no wedding, no single life farewell party and the fun of
the three “musketeers” will take place in a different way in Las Vegas.
10. Epic 3D
Release date: 31/5
The
new animation blockbuster of Fox has the characters which are inspired
by the work “The Leaf Men and the Brave Good Bugs” (1996) by writer
William Joyce. However, most of the content is fictional. “Epic” is
produced by Blue Sky Studio.
The world of Epic is a jungle where
has the battle between the good and the evil forces. The main character,
Mary Katherine, was brought into this world by miracle. The teen girl
and her tiny comrades had to fight against the dark forces to protect
their world.
