Nearly 3,000 metres above sea level, Lùng Cúng is the poorest chapter of Vu A Dinh Primary School in YênBái province’s Mu Cang Chai district. To get there, some teachers have to walk more than six hours. Despite this hardship, the teachers have overcome difficulties to help local children get to school.
Endless muddy roads, rough rocky paths from the centre of Nam Co commune to Lung Cung village.
The high and dangerous journey challenges travellers with abysses and mountains. However, all those difficulties can not dampen the enthusiasm of teachers.
NongThi Duong has worked at the school for nearly two years, so the journey is not new to her, but anxiety is unavoidable.
The journey is only the starting point of numerous difficulties that the teachers have to overcome to help local pupils go to school.
Surrounded by forests and mountains, the Lung Cung village is a “four NO village” : No electricity, No tap water, No telecommunications signal, and No health station.
Telephone flashlights are the only lighting source, helping teachers prepare their lessons. All the difficulties don’t dishearten the teachers, but homesickness can make them feel down sometimes.
Despite of all the hardships, the teachers have overcome difficulties to help locals go to school, hoping the kids will have a brighter future, contributing to the nation’s poverty alleviation.-VNA
