Recent statistics show Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Corporation
(VNPT) and Viettel are dominating the country’s telecommunications
sector.
Data from the Vietnam 2013 White Book on
information and communications technologies released on September 16 by
the Ministry of Information and Communications showed VNPT occupied 75.4
percent of the fixed line telephone market, while Viettel commanded a
40.05 percent of Vietnam’s mobile subscriptions.
According to the findings, Viettel trailed VNPT in the fixed line market
with 22.96 percent, followed by FPT Telecom with 0.23 percent, SPT with
1.21 percent, and VTC with 0.06 percent.

and third with 21.4 percent and 19.88 percent. The remaining market
share was occupied by Vietnamobile and GMobile with 10.74 percent and
3.93 percent, respectively.
Findings also showed the
number of mobile-phone subscribers and Internet users had increased
3.42 percent and 2.46 percent, respectively, compared with those in

The book showed that the number of fixed
broadband Internet subscribers rose by 24.74 percent, reaching 4.8
million. However, the number of 3G users declined from 16 million to
15.7 million after network providers wiped out registered subscribers
who did not use the services.
According to the white
book, the total revenue from information technology (IT) in 2012
reached 25.5 billion USD, an 86.3 percent increase on 2011 figures.-VNA
