Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Viet Thanh has called for
scientific researchers and educators to play more active roles in
implementing advanced-network infrastructure applications to improve the
capacity and efficiency of VinaREN, the Vietnam Research and Education
Network.

The deputy minister made the request at
the 6 th conference of VinaREN which witnessed the launch of the 4 th
phase of the Trans-Eurasia Information Network (TEIN 4).

Thanh added that attention should be paid to working out appropriate
policies to bring into full play the operation of VinaREN in the
2014-2020 period, playing a part in the success of the country’s 2020
strategy on science and technology development.

VinaREN is the result of the TEIN 2 in Vietnam, according to Le Xuan
Dinh, Head of the Department of the National Scientific Information and
Technology at the event.

Six centres are used to
operate the VinaREN network, connecting more than 60 member networks
including hundreds of research institutes, universities, scientific
organisations, data centres ,and hospitals in 11 provinces and cities
nationwide.

VinaREN creates favourable conditions
for Vietnam’s community of researchers and educators to make high-speed
connections with over 50 million colleagues working at more than 8,000
field-related centres worldwide.

At the event,
representatives affirmed the role and efficiency of VinaREN in such
fields as weather forecasting and remote health check-ups.-VNA
