Viettel, the Vietnamese military-run telecom group, officially
commenced its operations in Peru as mobile network provider Bitel on
October 15.
When Bitel was first introduced to the Peruvian
market, it was the only mobile service provider offering 3G services
with a network that reached 80 percent of Peru’s population.
Even before the official launch, Bitel had more than 200,000 local customers.
At the recent International Business Awards, part of the Stevie
Awards, two international subsidiaries of Viettel, namely Movitel in
Mozambique and Telemor in East Timor, won prizes for “Fastest-Growing
Company of the Year in the Middle East and Africa” and “Startup of the
Year”, respectively.
Viettel expanded its operations to Laos,
Cambodia, Haiti, Mozambique, East Timor, Peru and Cameroon. Soon, the
group will launch its services in Tanzania and Burundi.-VNA
