Danish Ambassador to Vietnam John Nielsen has affirmed that his country
is expanding cooperation with Vietnam in science and technology,
focusing on green growth and new energy, in which Denmark has many
experiences that it is willing to share with Vietnam.

The ambassador made the remark at the annual meeting of the
Vietnam-Denmark pilot Research Cooperation Programme in Hanoi on
April 18.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology
Tran Viet Thanh highly valued the Research Cooperation Programme
between the two sides as well as Denmark’s support for Vietnam’s
science and technology sector.

He noted that the
programme has attracted the interest of Vietnam’s science and
technology community for its efficiency in tackling important issues
that Vietnam is facing, including the urgent matter of climate
change.

During the meeting, participants evaluated
outcomes of the cooperation programme between the two sides over the
past years, with five projects launched in 2009, 2010 and 2011. These
projects cover the creation of new flood-resistant and salt-tolerant
rice varieties for coastal plain areas, measures to help aquaculture
adapt to climate change in the northern region, new technologies to
treat and recycle water, multi-lateral communication systems to reduce
the northern central region’s disaster vulnerability, and sustainable
development of aquaculture in the central regioin in the context of
climate change.

The two sides also updated each
other on the latest policies of their respective countries in the field
of science and technology, and worked out the direction for research
cooperation in the coming period.

The pilot Research Cooperation Programme has been carried out by Denmark in two countries of Vietnam and Tanzania.-VNA
