Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Quan has urged northern Bac
Giang province to foster the application of science and technology in
agriculture production so as to improve the quality and yield of farm
products.
At his working session with local key leaders on
November 30, Quan stressed that the province needs to determine what
its key agricultural products are, thus outlining sci-tech application
plans for further developing them in the coming time.
Along with mobilising its internal resources, Bac Giang should call on enterprises to invest in the field, he noted.
The
local authorities are also required to seek more markets for their
produce through promotion activities and registering for the
geographical indication .
During the session, participants
pointed out difficulties facing the locality in producing and selling
agricultural products, saying that agricultural production lacks
advanced facilities and technologies.
To realise the
objectives of the Science and Technology Development Strategy by 2020
and create impetus for the province’s socio-economic development, the
local authorities asked the ministry to support the province in
implementing Japan and Israel ’s projects on applying technology
in preserving litchi, a specialty of Bac Giang, they said.
They
also hoped to be assisted in building agricultural production models
using advantaged technologies and in registering for the industrial
property, especially the geographical indication, for Luc Ngan
litchi exported to the US, Europe, and Japan.-VNA
