A workshop on the sustainability of the electronics industry was held in
Ho Chi Minh City on October 22 in an effort to enhance the cooperation
among ASEAN Plus Three member states.

The Korea Institute of
Industrial Technology (Kitech) and the Vietnam Electronics Industry
Association (VEIA) jointly hosted the workshop.

Participants
discussed the industry’s growth, achievements and collaboration
opportunities. Furthermore, they voiced their opinions on related
issues, including the policy framework, the investment climate and the
commitments of foreign direct investors.

Suh Dong-Hyuk, a
representative of Kitech, presented the strategies and policies
implemented in the RoK to foster technology development.

As a
leader in the field of technology, the RoK has continuously supported
its regional partners, such as Vietnam and Indonesia, in research and
development, and human resources.

Vietnam’s information
technology and electronics industries have potential for further
development and are progressing steadily.

However, despite
positive progress, only a few of the country’s enterprises are
integrated into the supply chains of global technology conglomerates.

Currently, Vietnam exports electronics to almost 50 nations with a
total trade turnover of 37 billion USD in 2013, three times higher that
of 2011.

ASEAN+3 comprises 10 member countries of the
Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and three East Asian
nations, China, Japan, and the RoK.-VNA
