Phuc wins silver at Asian Walking Championships
Nguyen Thi Thanh Phuc brought home a silver medal at the Asian Race Walking Championships in Japan yesterday, March 10.

The 23-year-old completed her 20km race in 1hr, 35 min, 26 sec. Hosts Otoshi Kumi took the title.
Phuc’s
younger brother, Nguyen Thanh Ngung, finished fifth in the men’s 20km
event in a time of 1:27.30, breaking his own national record of 1:36.
In the same event last year, Phuc won a bronze medal.
Twenty
two-year-old Phuc, who participated in an international contest for the
first time at the 26th Southeast Asian Games in Indonesia in 2011,
became the first Vietnamese athlete to win an Olympic place.
Minh beaten in All England series
Top
badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh was stopped in the All England Super
Series by Lee Chong Wei in the quarter-final match on Saturday.
Minh, seeded No 8, lost to the world No 1 Lee 0-2 (17-21, 19-21) in 34 minutes.
Lee’s opponent in the semi-final will be Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk of Thailand, world No 37.
Minh has only beaten Lee once, in 2009, in a 11 matches against him.
Local team wins Int’l Volleyball Tourney

Post Bank (Vietnam) defeated Karaganda (Kazakhstan) in the final match
of the 7th VTV-Binh Dien Cup International Women’s Volleyball Tournament
held in the Central Highland city of Pleiku on March 10.
The Vietnamese team easily trounced its Karaganda rivals in the first set 25-17, but was beaten 20-25 in the second set.
The
situation was reversed in the third set when the Karaganda team lost
22-25 to the Vietnamese team, but again won a score of 25-19.
The decisive fifth set ended with 15-11 in favour of LienViet Post Bank.
The first prize went to LienViet Post Bank and the second and third prizes to Karaganda and VietinBank, respectively.
Ha Noi 1 beat No 2 in women’s quest
Ha
Noi 1 defeated Ha Noi 2 team 3-0 in the National Women’s Football
Championship-Thai Son Bac Cup in the northern province of Ha Nam on
Saturday.
Ha Noi 1’s Pham Hai Yen, Cao Thi Bien and Nguyen Thi Hue were scorers.

Noi 1 and Phong Phu Ha Nam led the six entrants with three points in
the annual event, which kicked off on Friday with six teams.
The
first leg of the championship will run until March 26, in a round robin
format. The second leg is scheduled from June 9-22 at Ha Nam Stadium.
Vu wins national motor racing tournament
Nguyen
Thanh Vu, from HCM City’s Duy Thai Racing Boy Club, won the 2013
National Motor Racing Tournament, which ended in the Central Highlands
province of Dak Lak yesterday, March 10.
The event attracted 24 top racers from across the country to the qualifying rounds. The four top racers contested the final.
Vu’s teammate Nguyen Huynh Luong and Nguyen Ba Thanh of Hung Linh Club came second and third, respectively.
