VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam international super grandmaster Le Quang Liem dropped nine notches to 42nd in the latest FIDE men’s world rankings for August with an elo rating of 2702.
Le Quang Liem.
Despite his 30-place leap to fourth in the world blitz rankings, Liem lost ten elo points to lag behind in the standard chess discipline, which is attributable to his poor performance at the recent fourth Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games in the Republic of Korea last month, where he missed out on a medal in the standard event.
Norway’s Magnus Carlsen maintained his reign atop the world with an Elo rating of 2862, followed by Levon Aronian of Armenia and Fabiano Caruana from Italy for their respective Elo points of 2813 and 2796.
Liem is currently training hard in his hometown Ho Chi Minh City to prepare for the upcoming 2013 Men’s World Chess Cup taking place in Tromso, Norway later this month.
