The pair, which was seeded No 4, defeated Leighton Allen and Vikas Deo of the hosts 7-5, 6-7 (4), 11-9 in the U16 category’s final.
“I am surprised with their win because the tournament attracted many strong players. Phuong and Eala met with powerful rivals before the final match. However, they deserved to take the title, as they played confidently and with determination,” coach Nguyen Phi Anh Vu said.
“I hope the win will be a strong motivator for them, especially for Phuong, in the future.”
Phuong and his teammates Tuan Minh (U12) and Trong Tin (U14) will take part in the Orange Bowl International Tennis Championship, which begins today in Florida.
Eddie Herr and Orange Bowl are two of the prestigious tennis tournaments in the US.
