The northern province of Hai Duong will launch a tour of Chu Dau ancient
pottery village on April 27 in a bid to boost its tourism.

This is one of two major events to be carried out by the province in
response to the Red River Delta-Hai Phong National Tourism Year 2013.

The programme will cover a wide range of activities,
including a display of ancient and current pottery collections, a
ceremony to honour skilled artisans, a fact-finding tour of the Chu Dau
ceramic factory – the core player in promoting the Chu Dau pottery
trademark in the domestic and international markets.

There will also be a field trip to the village and archaeological relic
sites in Nam Sach district and a contest on the history of Chu Dau
pottery.

Chu Dau pottery was known in the end of the
14 th century and reached its peak during the 15 th and 16 th
centuries. Chu Dau ceramics not only inherited the quintessence of those
during the Ly-Tran dynasties but also was upgraded into a strain of
previous pottery with bright enamel and beautiful patterns.

In 1992, the Chu Dau archaeological site was the first in the country to be recognised as a national relic.-VNA
