Mr. Quoc, one of the workers, said: “When I dug to the depth of nearly a meter, I touched something very hard. We were horrified to discover that seven grenades had been scooped up out of the hole without being noticed by anyone since they were mixed in the soil.”

After that, sappers of the Military Command of Phu Yen province came to check and found out 85 custard-apple-shaped grenades.

“These are American-made grenades. Each grenade weighs about 450 grams and all are in a state of rust. If being hit, they can explode, very dangerous,” said Colonel Le Tan My, who commanded the detection.

The soldiers also found a box of ammunition, 15 bullets and some wires and explosives in a state of rust.

“We have lived in this house for several decades. Now we rebuilt it. When we dug the foundation, we discovered so many grenades. We were very much panicked. Fortunately, nothing happened,” the house owner said.

According to Colonel Le Tan My, this is the first time such a large volume of grenades and explosives were unearthed in Tuy Hoa. On March 15, they were handled safely.
