VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnam will host the 46th International Chemistry Olympiad in July 2014, drawing high school student participants from 70 countries.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Tran Quang Quy announced the hosting duties at a July 16 award ceremony in Hanoi recognising the winners of the 2013 International Physics Olympiad.
Vietnam is preparing thoroughly, intent on duplicating the hosting successes of its 2007 International Maths Olympiad and 2009 International Physics Olympiad.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has already approved organizing the 2014 Chemistry Olympiad, acknowledging the honour of hosting one of the five premier international academic competitions.
Vietnamese students won two gold and two silver medals after first participating in the 1999 International Chemistry Olympiad.
They bagged two silver and two bronze medals in 2010, similar two silver and two bronze medals in 2011 and one gold, two silver, and one bronze medals in 2012.
