VietNamNet Bridge – According to statistics from the hotline of the Agency for Child Care and Protection, violence in schools in 2012 increased by 13 times compared to 10 years ago. One of the main reasons is the loosening of the parents in educating their children.

A survey conducted several years ago by the Hanoi University of Social Science and Humanity at two high schools in Dong Da District, Hanoi, violence among female students showed worrying results. Specifically, up to 96.7 percent of students participating in the survey said that there was fighting among female students in their schools.

Several years ago, Kim Anh High School in Soc Son District, Hanoi, recorded a lot of fighting among students. The school authorities combined with relevant to prevent the phenomenon.

Officials of Kim Anh High School said the major reason for school violence was the lack of education of the parents. Up to 85 percent of students were born in farmer families, whose parents lack of awareness in educating their children. The majority of parents did not pay attention to their children’s psychological development. They asked their children to work a lot. In many families, high-school students were the breadwinners. The parents are manual workers so their education methods were very limited. They still used physical punishment and verbal abuse…  to teach their children, making them feel insecure, hurt or even feel a complex about themselves and they cannot share their feeling with their parents, especially teen girls.

Teacher Nguyen Thi Bach Loan of the Kien Hung Secondary School in Hanoi said that some parents told her that they did not know how to teach their children so they commend their kids to the school.

To deal with this situation, some junior high schools in Hanoi have provided documents on prevention of school violence to parents through the associations of students’ parents.
