VietNamNet Bridge – Local authorities have all promised to “lay a red carpet” to welcome talented persons. However, in fact, a lot of talents remain unemployed.

After one year of studying excellently at the Da Nang University of Technology, Le Van Hau, 24, from Dien Ban district of Quang Nam province, got the Ministry of Education and Training’s scholarship for studying petrochemistry in Romania.

Hau said he was so happy about the opportunity of studying overseas, because he believed that a foreign university degree would help him find a good job more easily.

However, Hau was wrong. After five years of studying in Romania and finishing school with the excellent-grade degree, he returned to Vietnam. However, he has not been employed by any state agencies or enterprises.

Hau was told by the state agencies and enterprises that they don’t need a petrochemistry engineer.

He also sent his curriculum vitae to the Binh Dong petrochemical refinery oil in the Dung Quat Economic Zone in Quang Ngai province, and many other enterprises, but he has got no reply.

Hearing that the Quang Nam provincial authorities were employing officers for state agencies, Hau tried to apply for a job. However, he got, once again, disappointed.

He also heard that the Da Nang city authorities have promised big preferences to talented persons who agree to work for the city’s agencies. However, when Hau came to apply for a job, he was told that the city didn’t need the officers majoring in petrochemistry.

Finally, Hau decided to return to his home village and help parents in their field works. It’s still unclear when Hau can get a job on this training major. For the time being, Hau just can work hard in the rice field and cherish a hope.

Hau fears that his younger brother, Le Van Phat, also an excellent student of the Da Nang University of Technology, and also got the scholarship for a university training course in nuclear physics, would meet the same problems like his, when Phat returns from Russia after the course.

Hau is not alone. Just some days ago, local newspapers reported the story about Phan Thi Trang Nhung, a master in literature, who has been staying unemployed for three years.

Nhung said she applied for the jobs at all the state agencies and general schools which informed they needed officers, from the Da Nang City Education and Training Department, the Hai Chau district Education sub-department, the Quang Trung High School to the Da Nang University of Education, Duy Tan and Dong A University.

However, she remains a redundant.

Educators have many times voiced their concern about the waste in the training and use of talents.

“In 2006, at the ceremony to glory the city’s excellent students, Mr. Nguyen Ba Thanh (who was then the Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee), said the excellent university graduates will be recruited and appointed to important posts,” said Le Thi Gioi, the mother of Phan Thi Trang Nhung. “However, though my daughter has master degree, she still cannot find a job.”

In the latest news, Thanh, who is now Chair of the Central Committee for Internal Affairs, has written down on Nhung’s CV, asking for relevant agencies to consider Nhung’s case and employ her.
