335 Russian scholarships for Vietnamese students
Russia will grant 335 scholarships to Vietnamese undergraduate and post-graduate students in 2013.
Of the total, 175 students will benefit from post-graduate courses in Russia, according to the Ministry of Education and Training.
Candidates who do not know Russian will study the language one year before official courses. Successful candidates will be sent to Russia in September or October 2013.
The Russian Government will offer school fees and accommodation while Vietnamese Government will give a return ticket and cover visa registration, travel, and medical fees, as well as monthly subsistence allowances.
Candidates are not allowed to change training subjects and institutions as registered, except that the training institutions do not have subjects meeting candidates’ needs.
Application deadline is May 24, 2013.
The grant is within the framework of the education cooperation agreement between the two countries.
Ministry recognises outstanding students
The Ministry of Education and Training will award certificates of merit to 1,235 outstanding high school students who scored high marks on a national academic contest in the 2012-13 school year.
Ffifty-three students got first prize; 400, second prize; and 782, third prize.
In addition to a certificate of merit, the first-prize winners would receive VND1 million (US$47.6); second-prize winners, VND700,000($33); and third-prize winners, 400,000 ($19).
Ha Noi had the highest number of prizes, with 91, including nine first-prize winners. It was followed by Hai Phong City, the provinces of Nghe An, Hai Duong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh Phuc and Hung Yen, and HCM City.
Provinces in the northwestern, southwestern and the Central Highlands region had fewer winners.
Viet Nam hopes to expand educational ties with Germany
Bilateral ties between Viet Nam and Germany in the field of education have yet to reach strategic partnership level, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Thien Nhan said.
Nhan was talking with the Secretary General of the German Academic Exchange Service, Dorothea Ruland, during his reception for her in Ha Noi yesterday, May 9.
Nhan told his guest that he was delighted to see Viet Nam’s relationship with Germany growing stronger, but said that he expected more co-operation between the two sides in the areas of education and scientific research.
He added that he was looking forward to a meeting with Vietnamese alumni from German educational institutes, which will be held today.
The Deputy PM also outlined his hopes that the German Academic Exchange Service would grant more scholarships to Vietnamese students allowing them to study in Germany.
Ruland, who is in Ha Noi on a working visit, spoke highly of the educational ties between the two countries.
She said that Germany had offered 151 scholarships and fellowships to students across the world to undertake postgraduate courses in the country between 2008 and 2013.
Forty-one of those places had gone to Vietnamese students.
