Seven architecture projects located in Vietnam have been nominated for recognition at the sixth World Architecture Festival (WAF), the world’s largest evens for the global architecture community, to take place October 2-4 in Singapore.
The seven projects are nominated in six different categories in the final round. Four of them are competing in the “Completed Buldings” group and the other three are in the group of “Future Projects”
Three of the completed buildings are products of world-renowned Vietnamese architect Vo Trong Nghia.
They includes the Dailai Conference Hall in Vietnam’s northern province of Vinh Phuc, nominated for the category of “Civil and Community”, Kontum Indochina Café in the Central Highlands in the “Hotel/Leisure” group, and Stone House in the northern province of Quang Ninh in the class of “Villa”.
The other completed building is The Nest in the southern province of Binh Duong, standing in the category of “House”, designed by a21studio, a group of architects based in Ho Chi Minh City.
The three future projects in Vietnam running for WAF awards include New Smart City Dao Viet, designed by Italy-based company Tstudio, planned to span over a 788-hectares of land in Ha Long Bay, Quang Ninh Province, and Vinh Phuc University City in the northern province of Vinh Phuc, created by Japanese firm Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineerin Ltd.
Both of them are in the category of “Masterplanning”.
The final entry is The One, competing in the “Commercial mixed-use category”. It was designed by Hong Kong-based Arquitectonica, an architecture, design and planning firm, and is expected to be built in HCMC.
Architect Vo Trong Nghia was also chosen to be on the jury board of 95 members for the 2013 WAF, which will honor 174 buildings chosen from 286 that make it to the final round.
Australia has the largest number of nominations, followed by Singapore, Britain, the US, Turkey, Hong Kong, India, China and Japan.
Organized by England-based i2i Event Group, specializing in creating international exhibitions and events, the WAF this year is themed “value and values”, containing a lecture series that will take place throughout the festival.
The talks will examine what architecture and designs provide in terms of social, economic and environmental value, as well exploring the values that underpin the way designer’s think about the world.
