Quach Hoang Nhi and her teacher Ta Quang Dong at the final night of the third Mozart International Piano competition
Nine-year-old Quach Hoang Nhi has won first prize in the 7 to 9-year old category at the third Mozart International Piano competition in Thailand on July 25.
After four days, Nhi beat 22 other competitors in the group, who came from the US, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines.
A freshman at the Intermediate Class of the Vietnam National Academy of Music, Nhi has studied piano for five years and has won several international and local prizes, including the gold award at a music festival held in Cheonan, South Korea in August last year.
Ta Quang Dong, Nhi’s teacher, said the contest is quite difficult as it requires the kids in group D, Nhi’s group, to play difficult songs for their ages.
Nguyen Kieu Anh, another member of the Vietnamese team, made it to the final round of group A, which included contestants aged between 18 and 24.
Vietnam has three competitors joining the contest this year. The competition is divided into four categories. The other two groups are the 13-17 age group and the 10-12 age group.
