The winning team of Vietnamese circus clowns at Circuba 2013

A group of Vietnamese circus clowns won first prize at the sixth International Contest of Clowns, part of Cuba’s circus festival – Circuba 2013, which took place in the capital city of Havana from July 16-22.

Ta Duy Anh, Tran Manh Cuong and Nguyen Tien Hung beat out clown squads from Cuba, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and Italy to take the title, news website Vietnamplus reported Tuesday.

They also received an additional award from the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC) and a certificate of merit from Puebla University in Mexico.

Anh said winning the contest’s top prize was a great honor, adding that the contest also offered an opportunity to promote Vietnamese culture at an international venue.

Established in 1981, the annual Circuba contest has drawn the participation of circuses from all over the world. This year it attracted over 80 clowns from 14 countries.
