Vietnam’s Tung Duong will reunite with Unit Asia, which prides itself on having some of best vocalists in all of Asia, for concerts in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City later this month.

The shows are organized by the Japan Foundation Center for Cultural Exchange in Vietnam, in cooperation with the Consulate-General of Japan in HCMC to mark the 40th anniversary of ties between ASEAN and Japan, as well as Japan – Vietnam Friendship Year 2013.

Unit Asia is a hybrid jazz band featuring guitarist Isao “Sankichi” Miyoshi (Japan); saxophonist Koh Mr. Saxman (Thailand); pianist Tay Cher Siang (Malaysia); bassist Shigeki Ippon (Japan); and drummer Tomo’o Tsuruya (Japan).

The band was formed in October 2008 with the aim of “creating a new type of jazz music” and has been actively touring the globe ever since. Their first concert in Vietnam in February of last year drew rave reviews, and thanks to Tung Duong, it became one of the legendary concerts in the history of the country’s jazz scene.

According to the organizer, guest artist Tung Duong, Singer of the Year 2011 and winner of the Dedication Award for Song of the Year 2012 (“Chiec Khan Pieu”), is a perfect choice for Unit Asia. “His emotional and strong voice will interplay well with Unit Asia’s sound and will enrich the band’s musical diversity as a whole.”

Unit Asia will perform in Hanoi at the at the Youth Theater, 11 Ngo Thi Nham, Hai Ba Trung District, from 7:30 p.m. on July 12, and in HCMC at the Ben Thanh Theater, 6 Mac Dinh Chi Street, District 1, from 7:30 p.m. on July 14.

Admission to both concerts is free. Tickets are available at the Japan Foundation in Hanoi (27 Quang Trung, Hoan Kiem 04-3944-7419) and at the Ben Thanh Theater in HCMC.
