Singer My Tam will represent Vietnam as a nominee in the South East Asia “Best Regional Act” category at the MTV EMAs.
Local singer My Tam has been chosen to represent Vietnam as a nominee in the South East Asia regional round at the annual MTV EuropeMusic Awards (MTV EMA) in Amsterdam on November 10.
Tam is the first Vietnamese artist to compete in the MTV EMA.
With more than half of the 65,000 votes registered by fans throughout Vietnam, Tam has beat out ten other local candidates.
Previously, the competition at the South East Asia level only included Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.
The winner of the “Best Regional Act” will then compete for the “Best Continental Act” and then “Best Global Act” before reaching the “Best Worldwide Act” competition.
“Best Worldwide Act” award was born in 2011 and is exclusive to artists from the Asian region.
In its first year, the “Best Worldwide Act” went to South Korean boy-band Big Bang, and last year it was given to Chinese-Korean female artist Han Geng, a former member of Korean band Super Junior.
Last year, My Tam won Best Asian Singer at the annual Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) and became the first Vietnamese singer ever to win an award at the continental level.
MTV EMA is an annual awards show produced by the MTV channel. It was first established in 1994 by MTV Networks Europe to celebrate the most popular songs and singers in Europe.
