Vietnamese student team bagged more 13 gold medals on June 25, the second day of the fifth ASEAN Schools Games (AGS).

The impressive haul increased the team’s total to 16 golds, five
silvers and six bronzes, putting Vietnam in first place.

Vietnamese swimmers brought the team four golds in the morning, bringing
the country’s swimming tally to seven golds and one bronze.

The
17-year-old star swimmer Nguyen Thi Anh Vien made a hat-trick after
winning the women’s 100m freestyle, 200m backstroke and 200m medley
events. She has now pocketed six golds and one bronze in the
competition, becoming the most successful athlete in this year’s AGS.

The remaining gold went to Le Thi Viet Trinh in the women’s 100m backstroke.

In the afternoon, athletics took with seven gold, four silver and four bronze medals.

17-year-old Nguyen Thi Oanh brought her team two golds in the women’s 200m and 4x400m relay.

Other gold medals went to Le Trong Hinh (men’s 200m), Le Hoai Phuong
(men’s 800m), Vu Thi Ly (women’s 800m), 18-year-old Nguyen Thi Oanh
(2,000m obstacle race), and Nguyen Van Hao (long jump).
At the
end of the second day, Vietnam were sitting pretty at the top of the
leader board, followed by Malaysia and Thailand .

In last year’s ASEAN Schools Games, Vietnam ranked fourth with 60 medals, including 27 golds.-VNA
