A two-day seminar was opened in Ho Chi Minh City on October 9 seeking to
develop Vietnam’s chip industry with experience imparted by the
Republic of Korea (RoK).
Speaking at the event, Vice Chairman
of the municipal People’s Committee Le Manh Ha said HCM City was
focusing on developing its chip industry, a new field with high risks,
and therefore needed to learn from the experience of leaders in the
sector.
The seminar will lay a foundation to forge bilateral
cooperation in this field, with a particular focus on human resource
training, Ha said, highly valuing the RoK’s 30 years’ experience in chip
development and its status as the world’s second largest semi-conductor
manufacturer.
According to Park Sang Hyup, who is in charge of
trade affairs at the RoK Consulate General, semi-conductor chips are a
high-value component in advanced products, the production of which links
a number of industries together. He stressed that the RoK’s
developmental success was mainly attributable to the chip industry.
A variety of topics in the field of semi-conductors were presented by
RoK experts, including the different chip products and the
semi-conductor sector as a whole, semi-conductor manufacturing, and
cost-efficient construction of production facilities.
To
document the chip industry cooperation between Vietnam and the RoK, a
Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between Seoul National
University and Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology.
The seminar was organised by the municipal Department of Information and Communications and the RoK Consulate General.-VNA
