VietNamNet Bridge – Vietnamese students have bagged three gold and two silver medals at the 45th International Physics Olympiad taking place in Astana, Kazakhstan from July 13-21, placing overall among the top ten.



Vietnamese students, 45th International Physics Olympiad, gold medal

This is the highest achievement ever of Vietnamese students at the International Physics Olympiads.

The Ministry of Education and Training said on July 20 that all five Vietnamese representatives to the competition collected awards.

The three gold medal went to Cao Ngoc Thai, a 12th grader from Pham Boi Chau gifted high school in central Nghe An province; Do Thi Bich Hue, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based University of Natural Science (National University); and Vu Thanh Trung Nam, a 11th grader from Hanoi – Amsterdam gifted high school.

Two silver medals were secured by Dao Phuong Khoi, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the Hanoi-based University of Natural Science; and Pham Nguyen Tuan Anh, a 12th grader from the gifted high school under the HCM City-based National University.

This year’s competition drew 383 candidates from 84 countries and territories. Vietnam is among a select group of six countries achieving three gold medals.

Vietnam garners four medals at Int’l Informatics Olympiad

Vietnamese students amassed two silver and two bronze medals at the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2014) in Taiwan (China), announced the Ministry of Education and Training on July 19.

The Ministry reported that all four Vietnamese representatives secured medals. They include silver medalists Nguyen Quang Dung, a 12th grader of a Hanoi-based gifted high school, and Ngo Hoang Anh Phuc, a 12th grader at the gifted high school under the University of Natural Science (Hanoi-based National University).

The two bronze medals were collected by Do Xuan Viet, a 12th grader, and Nguyen Tien Trung Kien, an 11th grader, both from the gifted high school under the University of Natural Science.

The Vietnamese students are scheduled to return home on July 20.
