VietNamNet Bridge – To align training with the orientation of self-chosen education, a new set of textbooks for high-school students in HCMC has to be compiled and applied in the near future, said the director of the municipal Department of Education and Training.
Deputies of the HCMC People’s Council in a discussion at the ongoing session.
Le Hong Son explained to the People’s Council session on July 9 that the city would ask for its own mechanism to evaluate the quality of high-school graduates in line with the curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Training (MoET). Therefore, a specific set of textbooks is deemed as necessary.
“The HCMC Department of Education and Training recommends a particular series of textbooks with local specifics to ensure the implementation of elective study and examination in the city. Beside other nationwide series, HCMC has to make it a special one which will meet the requirements in the MoET’s curriculum,” said Son.
Nguyen Thi Quyet Tam, chairwoman of the HCMC People’s Council, inquired the application time of these textbooks right after Son’s proposal.
In her opinion, it takes years to compile a national series of textbooks. Therefore, she wants to know exactly when the new series for HCMC can be put into use.
Talking to the Daily, Le Hong Son said the pilot project of electronic textbooks for grade 1 and 2 is being submitted. After that, the specific textbooks project will be suggested.
