VietNamNet Bridge – The pair of lions with brown fur at the Cu Chi Water Park in Ho Chi Minh City delivered five baby lions, including two with white fur, which is a very rare phenomenon.

Mr. Nguyen Huu Truc, Director of the Cu Chi Water Park Zoo, said the parent lions were imported from South Africa by the Indochina Zoo Services Company in November 2011 along with 10 other lions.
“All of the imported lions are about 12-14 months old. They lived together in the early times but then we divided them into pairs for reproduction. Unexpectedly, a pair delivered two babies with white fur,” said Truc.
Explaining this phenomenon, Mr. Bui Hong Thuy, director of Indochina Zoo Services Company, said the white lions have white hair, which is not caused by albino but special genetic mutation.
“It is unusual if normal lion mothers deliver white babies. Normally, the ratio is 50 percent for white lion parents to have white babies,” Thuy said.
