Thailand and Laos have reached a cooperation agreement to solve
six border-related issues at the 8th meeting of the group of the
Thailand-Laos border provinces on March 8.
Under this agreement, the two countries will coordinate to solve
cases involving the imprisonment of their citizens, the prevention of
the drug smuggling and the preservation of the status quo of the border.
They also head towards improving border
checkpoints, encouraging provincial groups to work closely in ensuring
peace along the border, and setting up communication channels between
them.
Thai Interior Minister Jarupong Ruangsuwan
spoke highly of the meeting’s outcomes, affirming its contribution to
their bilateral ties. In the long term, Thailand-Laos fine relationship
will help Thailand intensify its link with other countries in the
region, he added.
The 3-day meeting was held in
Thailand with the participation of leaders from 12 provinces of
Thailand and nine provinces of Laos. /.
