Singapore began a counter-terrorist drill on October 29, simulating a
rescue operation for hostages held by terrorists on land and an attack
on a terrorist ship at sea.

The 10-day exercise, co-organised by
the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Home Affairs, involves 1,600
employees of Government offices and security agencies.

It aims
to examine Singapore’s capacity for responding to terrorism and the
state of its wider National Maritime Security System.

The drill
will also test the coordination between agencies in countering
terrorist-run attacks like the one that hit Mumbai, India in November
2008, which took the lives of 170 people in hospitals, restaurants and
luxury hotels.-VNA
