Laos and Belarus signed a number of agreements on development of
bilateral cooperation in different fields following the talks between
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Lao President Choummaly
Sayasone in Minsk on July 1.
According to Russia’s news
agency ITAR-TASS, the parties signed an agreement on friendly relations
and cooperation, an inter-governmental document on making and protecting
investments and deals on double taxation avoidance, scientific and
technical cooperation, and educational contacts.
Additionally,
the leaders of both countries discussed measures to further intensify
trade and cooperation in machinery, agriculture, the exploitation of
mineral resources, petro-chemistry and pharmaceutics.
“Despite
the fact that we have experience in certain spheres, one can say we’re
only taking first steps. Much should be done to reach the high level in
our relationship that Laos develops with other countries,”
Lukashenko said at the talk.
Lao President Choummaly Sayasone’s June 1-3 visit to Belarus aims to promote bilateral relations.
The two countries have established diplomatic ties since 1994. Last year, they saw their two-way trade of 11 million USD.-VNA
