Japan called for stronger security ties with Southeast Asia at a
conference of deputy ministers from Japan and 10 ASEAN members in
Tokyo on March 13.
According to Japanese Vice-Minister of Defence Akinori Eto, on top of
growing economic cooperation, Japan and ASEAN need to further
strengthen ties in security and defence.
He said his
new administration wants to reinforce security and defence cooperation
with ASEAN countries and contribute to peace in the region.
The meeting is the first high-ranking defence dialogue of its kind
