China and Indonesia have agreed to lift their bilateral ties to a
comprehensive strategic partnership during talks between Chinese
President Xi Jinping and his Indonesian counterpart, Susilo Bambang
Yudhoyono, in Jakarta on October 2.
At the
talks, Xi, who is on a two-day State visit to Indonesia, said that
China regards Indonesia as a priority in its policy with
neighbouring countries and stands ready to deepen bilateral cooperation.
The Chinese President proposed the establishment of
an Asian infrastructure investment bank so as to promote
interconnectivity and economic integration in the region.
For his part, Yudhoyono said Indonesia attaches great importance to
its ties with China and hopes to seize the opportunity of the
establishment of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to
further boost all-round cooperation between the two countries.
Following the talks, the two leaders witnessed the signing of a
five-year economic cooperation development plan between the two
Governments and many other documents on cooperation in industrial zones
building, fishery, tourism, meteorology and space.-VNA
