Transport ministers of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC)
forum gathered in Tokyo on September 5 to discuss ways to enhance
transportation services across the region.
Participants discussed measures to enhance cooperation on international
logistics policy, infrastructure investment including high-way network
expansion.
At the meeting, Japan ‘s
transport minister Akihiro Ota said that safer and faster transportation
services in the Asia- Pacific region would contribute to a stronger
economic growth and better links with other regions.
Ministers and government officials of the 21 APEC economies also
exchanged views on how to deal with natural disasters like earthquake
and tsunami that hit northeastern Japan in 2011.
The 21 APEC economies are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea,
Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, the Philippines,
Russia, Singapore, Thailand, the US and Vietnam.-VNA
