VietNamNet Bridge – The latest exhibition by artist Ty from Nha
Trang City opened on April 6 at Tu Do Gallery, HCM City, introducing 21
oil and acrylic paintings.
Painter Ty.
Ty,
53, is a self-taught painter. He began the surrealist drawing style in
2000. So far, he has had about 800 paintings of this genre, mostly oil
and acrylic works. In the ongoing exhibition, he displays the paintings
that were drawn from 2006 to 2012.
The viewers can see the
repeated images in these works: a bowl, a torn conical hat, a duck, a
fish, fish bones, a puppet or an oil lamp … The most outstanding
images are the human faces which are depicted in different angles. They
are drawn by streamline lines: curve lines, slanting lines, straight
lines, cubes … They mix together, blending as colorful characters.
They tell stories about the life of farmers and fishermen through their
daily activities, such as praying for bumper catches and safety at sea,
tending ducks and buffaloes, catching fish, a market, etc.
The
faces of the laborers in his paintings are quite similar. They are just
shapes with very simple lines but sufficient to express the inner
emotions of the characters.
Seeing the paintings by Ty, the
viewers will perceive a world full of opposite pairs which can hardly be
separated in the cycle of life: rebirth – decay, happy – sad, austere –
disengaged.
Ty’s paintings are favored by many foreign
collectors. So in the last few years, he has brought his works many
exhibitions in France and the USA.
Ty’s paintings were exhibited
in HCM City in 2005. After 8 years, he has returned with the “Ty –
2013,” which will last until April 27 at the Tu Do Gallery, 53 Ho Tung
Mau Street, District 1, HCM City.
