Blissful trance-inducing kosmische techno. Occult electronic music that makes heads nod and move bodies. The monolith in the middle of the dancefloor.
WXIV was formed in 2014 by Bangkok-based sound artist Koichi Shimizu and visual artist Voranat Voraphitak, both sharing the same passion for electronic music and synthesizers.
They craft live performances with rich dynamic sounds completed by complex textures and layers of layers of analogue/digital hybrid instruments, playing around with the machine’s constantness and randomness to create the perfect balance between order and chaos, between the magickal and the earthly (all the while making your bodies move).
Koichi Shimizu has been active in the Bangkok music scene since 2013, organising live events and running independent a record label, both under the name SO::ON Dry FLOWER. He’s also been running an open art space called SOL since 2008 to showcase various types of event and workshops. He is also known as a music composer and sound designer for films and has provided music and sound-design work for international acclaimed works such as Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Palme d’Or award at Cannes 2010) and Syndromes and a Century by Aphichatpong Weerasethakul, Invisible Waves and Nymph by Pen-ek Ratanaruang, as well as Wonderful Town and Hi-SO by Aditya Assarat and more.
ROBERT PIOTROWICZ is one of the most prolific and well-known artists in the Polish experimental and improvised music scene.
He began his music adventures in the 80s, playing the guitar in bands associated with Szczecin’s hardcore and punk scene. In the following years, Piotrowicz focused more intensely on experimentation and improvisation. He gave many concerts, often accompanied by acclaimed artists from electro-acoustic scenes around the world. Gazeta webzine described his impressions from a concert as follows:
Robert. Latino macho look, but with dreadlocks to his waist, tracksuit, as if he has just returned from Jamaica. They play improvised music. Robert plays guitar and analogue converters (including a mini oscillator and a ball of fabric). For most of the time, the guitar is lying on the table. Oh, and there is also a bow. Used in the conventional manner
Although his fierce live shows are mainly performed with analogue modular synthesizer and electric guitar, his recent album “When Snakeboy Is Dying” makes use of a broad spectrum of instruments (including piano and vibraphone) to create refined, subtle compositions. His other activities include electro-acoustic studio compositions, composing for theatres, participation in interdisciplinary art projects and sound installations. He is also known for collaborations with artists such as Anna Zaradny, Oren Ambarchi, Lasse Marhaug, Kevin Drumm and others.
Robert Piotrowicz’s performance is supported by Culture.pl. Follow his SoundCloud channel.
“Dee.F is an artistic side of Phu Pham, who in sound he attempts to capture its spectrum to codify the unstructured rhythm of being”.
Phu is one of the most active artists in the current Vietnamese music scene and has constantly striking his sounds through both solo and his band work – currently with “XAI”, a live techno punk band. Having performed from intimate venues to festivals, Dee.F continuously shapes his artistic expressions through experimental / obscure techno form.
