VietNamNet Bridge – This month, the audiences are enjoying two notable horror films – “Last Summer” and “Insidious 2” and two Vietnamese films – “How To Fight in Six Inch Heels” and “Funny Money”.
1. Jobs

The first movie of October is “Jobs” about the legendary of the IT world – Steve Jobs. The film is the story of the efforts in over 30 years to reach success of the co-founder of the Apple Group. “Jobs” is an independent film project with quite large budget compared to the other films of the same kind ($18 million). The script is based on the biography of a friend of Jobs and the co- founder of Apple – Steve Wozniak. Ashton Kutcher plays Steve Jobs.
2. Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon 3D
Release Date: 4/10
A prequel to Tsui’s 2010 hit, “Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame” in 2010, starred by Andy Lau, “Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon” brings the audiences back to the childhood of the detective. The film will have surreal circumstances with the appearance of a giant sea dragon. Angelababy plays a courtesan with heavenly beauty who tries to charm Dee. Carina Lau is back with the role of Wu Zetian. Willimam Feng plays detective Dee. The film also stars Korean actor Kim Bum.
The first production shot in stereoscopic 3D by Huayi Brothers Media, and Tsui’s second 3D project since “Flying Swords of Dragon Gate” (2011), “Young Detective Dee” successfully uses the technology to bring to life the ancient splendor of the Tang Dynasty, an age comparable to the Renaissance for its cultural diversity.
3. Battle of the Year 3D

Battle of the Year is an international dance crew tournament that attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven’t won in fifteen years. Los Angeles Hip Hop mogul Dante (Alonso) wants to put the country that started the Sport back on top. He enlists his hard-luck friend Blake (Holloway), who was a championship basketball coach, to coach his team. Armed with the theory that the right coach can make any team champions, they assemble a Dream Team of all the best dancers across the country. With only three months until Battle of the Year, Blake has to use every tactic he knows to get twelve talented individuals to come together as a team if they’re going to bring the Trophy back to America where it started. The film is inspired by the actual world championship held yearly in France. It is starred by singer Chris Brown.
4. All Stars 3D

All Stars is family drama, dance movie dedicated for children. The movie starts when a recreation center for teens is facing the prospect of being closed. The boy Jayden – a street dancer – has to cooperate with Ethan to raise funds and set up a Hip Hop dance group to participate in the upcoming contest for the bonus to save the center.
5. Gravity 3D
Release Date: 11/10
Gravity is a film about the outer space journey of Dr. Ryan Stone and veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky. After debris hit the space shuttle, the two are pushed into the infinite space. Trapped in the empty space of zero gravity, having not enough oxygen to breathe and being out off contact with the Earth, the two have to compromise and struggle to get life from the hands of the death. Gravity is starred by Sandra Bullock and George Clooney. The movie was screened at the Venice Film Festival in late August and received good comments from critics.
6. How To Fight in Six Inch Heels

Fashion world with full of attraction from models is expressed under a different and hilarious angle. What happen when a girl who doesn’t care about her appearance suddenly becomes a gorgeous fashion queen? She enters to the world of fashion not because of the fame or the money but because of a pair of high heels. And her model journey begins…

7. The Flu

The Flu is a 2013 South Korean disaster film written and directed by Kim Sung-su about an outbreak of a deadly disease with a fatality rate of 100 percent, which throws a city into chaos. It stars Jang Hyuk and Soo Ae.
A group of illegal immigrants are smuggled to South Korea inside a shipping container, but when it’s opened in Bundang, an affluent suburb of Seoul, it’s discovered that all of the immigrants are dead, except for one man, a carrier of a deadly strain of H5N1 (avian influenza or bird flu). As the man escapes, he quickly spreads the virus to nearby residents. With an outbreak rate of 2,000 new cases each hour, with death occurring within 36 hours of infection, the epidemic plunges the city into total chaos.
Without a cure and out of fear that the disease will spread to the rest of the country, and possibly the world, the government quarantines the infected in Bundang. As the people desperately struggle to survive within those walls, doctor and single mother Kim In-hae (Soo Ae) scrambles to find a vaccine for the virus. Selena Gomez’s fans will have a chance to see her on the big screen this month in the movie “Getaway”, starring with actor Ethan Hawke. The film is about former race-car driver Brent Magna who is pitted against the clock when his wife is kidnapped by a mysterious villain. He commandeers a young woman’s car and takes her on a high-speed race against time.
10. Funny Money

Funny Money is a romantic and comedy movie about Lucky Loc, Quyen and a torn paper note. Through unexpected situations, the paper note which no one wants to have now suddenly triggers the conflict between two people with different personalities. One believes the note is the lucky charm, another think it is the bad luck. So at the end, who will gain and who will lose?
11. Escape Plan
Release Date: 25/10
Ray Breslin is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. After analyzing every high security prison and learning a vast array of survival skills so he can design escape-proof prisons, his skills are put to the test. He’s framed and incarcerated in a master prison he designed himself. He needs to escape and find the person who put him behind bars. The film is starred by Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone.
12. Pororo: Adventure Race 3D

This movie was introduced at the second Korean Film Festival in Vietnam in early September. The movie is about curious little penguin Pororo and his friends which accidentally cause an airplane to make an emergency landing in their home of Pororo Village. On the airplane are some turtles being shipped to Northpia to deliver ice sleds, or racing ice cars. Nevertheless, Pororo and his friends believe that the turtles are racers, and the turtles end up giving the gang at Pororo Village some lessons and passing on the championship spirit. In the end, Pororo and his friends follow the turtles to Northpia to participate in the race. Upon arriving at icily beautiful Northpia’s race, Pororo and his friends wind up unlikely front-runners, ahead of the polar bears, and make it to the finals. However, a more complicated course awaits Pororo and his friends- as does their strongest adversary yet.
13. Last Summer

Halloween this year, the Vietnamese audience will enjoy a horror movie from Thailand “Last Summer.” “Last Summer” deals with the demise of a star high-school student. Her spirit haunts friends and family members who are guilty in their own ways for the girl’s death. A group of youngsters are cutting loose for a weekend of partying. One kid, Singha, steals his dad’s car and the keys to the family’s beach house, and brings along his classmates, including his buddy Garn, budding actress and popular girl Joy and Joy’s gal pal Meen. Beach frolicking and boozing at the house follow, but then Joy becomes drowsy and she’s never the same again.
14. Insidious: Chapter 2

The haunted Lambert family seeks to uncover the mysterious childhood secret that has left them dangerously connected to the spirit world.
Insidious: Chapter 2 of the Malaysian director James Wan is the sequel of the film that made many people shudder three years ago. The open end in the first part opened a new story for the second part with the horrifying nightmares from the afterlife. Two actors from the first part – Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne – continue to play in this part.
