The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) on July 1 met with 14
students who will represent their peers nationwide to attend the 27th
World University Summer Games slated for July 6-17 in Kazan, Russia.

The Vietnamese athletes will compete in four out of 15 events at the
Games, including track and field, table tennis, chess and gymnastics.

Addressing the event, MoET Deputy Minister Tran Quang Quy
tasked the team to try their utmost in order to reap the best results.

He urged the athletes to demonstrate solidarity and honesty in
competitions while engaging in friendly exchange with international
friends.

This year’s Games gathers young athletes from more
than 170 countries and territories worldwide. The biennial event aims to
promote sports in school and strengthen friendship between students
across the world.

On the fringes of the event, there will be
an array of cultural and tourism programmes as well as knowledge sharing
activities.

At the previous competition which took place in China in 2011, Vietnam brought home a silver medal and three bronzes.-VNA
