The Vietnam bodybuilding team delivered a sweet start to the 48th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championships in Macau (China) as they snatched three gold medals on the first day of competition, August 29.

SEA Games champion, Nguyen Van Lam polished his medal collection by finishing supreme in the men’s 65kg weight class.

An Giang-born Dinh Kim Loan was crowned women’s 49kg champion – her fifth consecutive Asian title over the past six years – while teammate Ton Hoang Khanh Lan blasted through for a silver in the same category.

The third gold medal went to Tran Thi Cam Tu in the women’s under-1.55m fitness discipline. Lam Thuy Mi brought home another silver for Vietnam in the competition for athletes of over 1.55m height.

2013 champion and also Vietnam’s biggest hope, Pham Van Mach failed to retain his 60kg title, ending up in second place.

The tournament is taking place from August 29 to September 1 with the participation of about 300 bodybuilders from 19 countries and territories across Asia.
