Vietnam is expected to play one match at the Asian Football
Confederation’s (AFC) Champions League (CL) next season, following their
new ranking.
According to AFC’s latest release, Vietnam, with 28,243 points, are seeded No 15 among 46 members of the continental federation.
According
to AFC regulation, the top 24 teams qualify for the tournament. It
means that in case Vietnam maintains their rank till the end of the
year, they will have a chance to compete at the highest level in the
2015-16 period.
Vietnam Football Federation’s Tran Quoc Tuan said
that although the final ranking would be released only in November,
with its current position, it would be difficult for Vietnam to drop out
of the top 24.
The winners of the V-League will represent Vietnam at the Asian competition. V-League will wrap up within the next two weeks.
Recently,
Vietnam collected enough points to take part in the preliminary round
of the Champion’s League this year, just as it did in 2010.
Earlier
in 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2008, there were two Vietnamese teams which
competed in the League’s group rounds. However, none qualified for the
next stage.-VNA
