The UK Week in Ho Chi Minh City opened on October 2 as part of
activities to mark the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-UK diplomatic ties
across both countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony,
UK Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City Douglas Barnes and Vice
Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Le Manh Ha hailed the fine
relationship between the two nations, which has been unceasingly
developed in all aspects over the past 40 years.

Barnes
said a delegation of UK companies operating in the innovative
industry, education and whole sales also came to Vietnam on this
occasion to seek business opportunities and promote cooperation with
local firms.

According to Le Manh Ha, the UK Week in Ho
Chi Minh City provides an opportunity to boost cooperation between
Vietnam’s southern economic hub and the UK, as well as for
businesses from both sides to connect with each other.

The
UK ranks 11th among countries and territories investing in Ho Chi
Minh City with 95 projects worth 628 million USD in total.

Two-way trade turnover between the city and its UK partners reached 460 million USD in the first nine months of 2013.-VNA
