Vinh takes top prize at international shooting event

Hoang Xuan Vinh brought home a gold medal in the men’s 10m air pistol at the ISSF World Cup Rifle/Pistol in Changwon in South Korea on Saturday.

Vinh scored a total of 200.8 points to take home the gold, with Wang Zhiwei of China and Prakash Nanjappa of India following behind in second and third with 200.1 points and 180.2 points, respectively.

Vinh managed to outshoot Chinese Wang who claimed a bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympic Games.

25 teams to compete at car race 2013

Extreme racers in the Rainforest Challenge (RFC) – Ha Long Vietnam Challenge 2013 will start their engines at Quang Ninh province’s Tuan Chau Tourism Resort from June 1-5.

After the success of the Ha Long Vietnam Challenge 2012 event, organisers hope the race will once again win the hearts of off-road racing fans with its breathtaking excitement, according to the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Online.

As many as 25 domestic and international off-road teams will join the event, racing both in-ground and out-ground levels.

RFC Ha Long Vietnam Challenge 2013 is part of the Rainforest Challenge series, taking place worldwide, with the key event hosted by Malaysia every December.

The event has become known as Vietnam’s high quality off-road race, thanks to advice and support from professional international organisers.

Last year’s tournament championship went to racer Do Tuan Khanh from the Hanoi off-road club.

Khanh Hoa crowned national U19 football champions

Khanh Hoa won the national under-19 football championships beating Song Lam Nghe An (SLNA) 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Thursday at the Pleiku Stadium.

SLNA, who had beaten their opponents in the group stage, came into the final match as favourites and they did control the game for the most part, but it was Khanh Hoa who opened the score in the first half through Lam Ti Phong.

SLNA upped their game in the second half and managed to find the equaliser with a goal by Dong Van Chung. Then they pushed hard for the winner, but Khanh Hoa held firm, forcing the game into a penalty shootout.

Khanh Hoa found the net four times, while Song Lam Nghe An failed to do so twice.

Ha Noi TT and Ha Noi football club shared the third place.

Chung was the tournament’s best scorer with 10 goals while Phong was named Best Player of the Tournament.

Brave athletes set to race through the wilds of Viet Nam

Jungle Marathon Viet Nam, an endurance race covering a total length of 240km, will be held in the central city of Dong Hoi in Quang Binh Province from May 31 to June 9, race volunteer Mai Nguyen Dinh Huy said.

Covering six stages through forests of the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, including parts of the former Ho Chi Minh Trail, and the border with Laos, the competitors will return to Dong Hoi City for a stunning finish on beach.

Huy added around 30 athletes from over the world have registered to compete in the race, which is reserved for a maximum of 60 competitors.

The Jungle Marathon, voted the world’s toughest endurance race by CNN, has been organised for the first time in Viet Nam.

“Competitors will run through jungle and spend nights in caves as well and crossing mountains and waterfalls in six days. The fifth stage will be expected the toughest when athletes have to race through the night,” Huy said in a phone interview.
