A show of folk songs for blind beggars, known as xam in Vietnamese,
was held on April 15 in the northern province of Ninh Binh to
commemorate local late artisan Ha Thi Cau and praise her contributions
to the preservation of the art.
The art dates back more than 700 years and has been handed down through generations mostly orally.
The province encouraged the preservation of the art through educating
the youth and compiling a scientific dossier seeking UNESCO’s
recognition of specific intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent
protection.
